Thanks! The vinyl was from an old suitcase thing that I cut up and re-sewed to sort of face-shaped, then long story short I mixed and matched, found, lost, refound, constructed, recycled, painted, cut up, glued together, stretched, and shrunk lots of random little bits and put them on as well.
Yeah, I know. But really, what exactly is the point of any of it? For example: chainmail on a gas mask? Exactly what does that protect against? Certainly not gas! I dunno, I just threw it together for fun, really.
Very interesting design, though I'm not wild about the gears. They don't really look like they'd actually have a purpose. Maybe adding something on that side to make it look more like part of a machine rather than just sitting there. I think the respirator part and hose would probably look a bit better in a bronze colour as well. Like I said, a very interesting design choice. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
It's not entirely finished yet. I thought about painting the hose bronze or copper but doing a little test run it looked really bad against the colour of the vinyl I used (which was off an old satchel). It just seemed to clash a bit. I'm thinking maybe a greyish silver like the mini drums on the right-hand side.
Nice looking, though I would suggest putting something over the white hose, it stands out from the rest of the mask right now. You have those cable sleevings that look a bit like those old cotton-wrapped cords phones used to have. Or you could use something like this this exhaust wrap, which also looks a bit cotton-like. But the mask is already pretty impressive now, good work!
I agree with you, I was looking everywhere for something like that. I was initially just going to paint it black, but that would have looked too much. I'm still on the hunt for some finishing touches because I think the hose looks a bit plain just by itself.
